Babe's Ice Cream in Bay View will reopen on February 5 under new owner Michael Ludwig, who previously led its redevelopment 20 years ago. Ludwig, a Milwaukee native and U.S. Navy veteran, was offered the business by longtime friends Christine and Darwing Cruz, who are retiring.

The shop will maintain its existing operations, featuring Madison-made Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. Ludwig aims to uphold the community-focused legacy of the Cruzes, ensuring all current employees remain.

His family will also play a role, with his sister, brother-in-law, and son involved in various aspects of the business. The ice cream shop will operate from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday in winter, with extended hours planned for warmer weather.
