BAE Systems Advances APKWS Development and International Deployments
BAE Systems has advanced the development and international deployment of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS), a laser-guided 70mm rocket system launched from various platforms. Originally initiated by the US Army in 2002, the system has been successfully integrated into military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, with recent tests demonstrating its capabilities in counter-UAS operations. Additionally, Jordan has purchased APKWS, and the US Navy continues to award contracts for its production to meet increasing demand.

BAE Systems developed the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS), a laser-guided 70mm rocket system, in collaboration with the US Government. The system can be launched from various aircraft and unmanned platforms, engaging ground, air, and sea targets with high precision.
The US Army initiated the APKWS program in 2002, which was later revitalized as APKWS II in 2005, with BAE Systems becoming the prime contractor in 2006. Full-rate production began in August 2012, with the weapon system deployed in Afghanistan shortly thereafter.
Recent tests in June 2020 demonstrated APKWS capabilities from ground-based systems. By March 2023, APKWS rockets were successfully used in counter-UAS operations. Internationally, Jordan purchased APKWS in May 2014, and the US Army and USAF have integrated the system into operations in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2015. The US Navy has also awarded multiple contracts to BAE Systems for continued APKWS production to meet rising demand.
