BAE Systems Completes Preliminary Design Review for Epoch 2 Satellite Constellation for U.S. Space Force
BAE Systems has completed the preliminary design review for the Epoch 2 missile warning and tracking satellite constellation for the U.S. Space Force. This follows a $1.2 billion contract awarded in May 2025 for the development of 10 satellites to be launched into medium Earth orbit for global hypersonic missile tracking. The satellites will enhance missile detection capabilities and support a layered missile-warning architecture.

BAE Systems has completed the preliminary design review for the Epoch 2 missile warning and tracking satellite constellation for the U.S. Space Force. This review confirms that the design meets the necessary requirements.
Under a $1.2 billion contract awarded in May 2025, BAE will develop 10 satellites to operate in medium Earth orbit, enhancing capabilities to detect and track missile launches, including hypersonic threats. The Epoch 2 constellation is part of a broader Resilient Missile Warning Tracking architecture, complementing existing systems.
The satellites will utilize infrared sensors to relay tracking data to defense systems. The initiative is intended to create a layered missile-warning network across various orbital regimes.
