Bali to Begin Construction of LNG Power Plant in 2026
Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced that construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power plant will commence in 2026, aiming to enhance the island's energy independence. Koster has prohibited the use of coal for new power plants, advocating for renewable energy or gas as a cleaner alternative. The LNG terminal is expected to stabilize electricity supply and reduce reliance on external sources.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced that the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power plant will begin in 2026. The plan was confirmed during the opening of the Bali Language Month 2026 in Denpasar.
Koster stated that he has prohibited PLN from building new power plants that use environmentally harmful materials, specifically rejecting coal as a fuel source. He emphasized the need for renewable energy or at least gas, which is considered less harmful than coal. The establishment of an LNG terminal is expected to enable Bali to achieve energy independence and reduce reliance on external electricity supplies from Paiton, ensuring a stable electricity supply for the future.
