Bali's DKP Emphasizes Environmental Impact Review for Sidakarya LNG FSRU Project
The Head of Bali's Marine and Fisheries Agency (DKP), I Putu Sumardiana, emphasized the need for environmental assessment and public consultation before granting the Spatial Utilization Suitability Permit for the LNG project in Sidakarya. He noted that the area is significant for religious activities, and consultations are essential to ensure no disruption occurs.
The DKP is guided by the Segara Kerthi concept, focusing on marine conservation. Sumardiana acknowledged that the project’s Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) is crucial for evaluating potential ecological impacts.
He indicated that while declining fish catches are influenced by multiple factors, the DKP will oversee the project to protect fishermen's interests. Environmental observer Ketut Gede Dharma Putra highlighted the critical nature of the project site, noting past community resistance against the LNG terminal's proximity to mangroves, which led to a redesign of the project as an offshore facility.
