Bangladesh Aims to Become Semiconductor Hub by 2050
Bangladesh is positioning itself to become a key player in the semiconductor industry by 2050, leveraging its quartz-rich river sands. A strategic five-stage roadmap outlines the development of high-purity silica production, integrated circuit design capabilities, and chip manufacturing facilities.

Bangladesh aims to transform into a semiconductor hub by 2050 by utilizing quartz-rich river sands from its major rivers, including the Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Padma, and Teesta. The first stage of a proposed five-stage roadmap involves exploring quartz resources and establishing a Sand Processing and Research Centre, followed by producing high-purity silica and enhancing integrated circuit design capabilities.
Challenges include a lack of advanced processing infrastructure and competition in international markets. The government could facilitate growth through tax incentives and sustainable policies. This initiative could bolster employment and support a shift towards a high-tech economy.
