South Korea to Enact Special Law for AI Investment Zones in 2023
South Korea's government plans to introduce a special law this year to establish designated zones for AI investment projects. This initiative aims to streamline regulations and accelerate the implementation of significant investments in AI and related sectors.

The South Korean government is set to enact a special law in 2023 to create designated zones for artificial intelligence (AI) investment projects. This move follows the announcement of three megaprojects, including a semiconductor production cluster, with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix committing 800 trillion won (approximately US$564.9 billion) in the Honam area.
The law will facilitate faster licensing, environmental assessments, and infrastructure development, such as utilities and worker housing. Investments in Chungcheong and Yeongnam regions are also planned this year, totaling 246 trillion won and 107 trillion won, respectively. The government aims for a rapid transformation of regional areas into centers for future industries.
