Bangladesh Army Withdraws Personnel After BNP Leader's Death in Custody
The Bangladesh Army has withdrawn personnel involved in the operation that led to the death of BNP leader Md Shamsuzzaman while in custody, following allegations of torture from his family and party activists. The incident, which occurred during a raid for illegal weapons on January 12, has prompted the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Legal actions against those responsible have been promised amid rising tensions in the area.

The Bangladesh Army has withdrawn the camp commander and personnel involved in the operation leading to the death of BNP leader Md Shamsuzzaman in military custody in Jibannagar. The ISPR confirmed the operation occurred on January 12, targeting illegal weapons.
Shamsuzzaman was detained and later fell ill, dying at Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex. A high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances of his death, with legal actions promised against those responsible. Allegations of torture have been made by his family and BNP activists, sparking tensions in the area.
