Bangladesh Cabinet Approves LNG Imports and Power Projects
Bangladesh's Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved the import of three LNG cargoes totaling Tk 2,186.35 crore. This decision aims to enhance energy security and stabilize power supply amid rising energy demands.

The Cabinet Committee approved the procurement of three LNG cargoes from Singapore-based suppliers at a total cost of Tk 2,186.35 crore. These shipments are scheduled for delivery between June 8-9, June 9-10, and June 14-15, with a price of $18 per MMBtu.
Additionally, two electricity purchase proposals were sanctioned from North West Power Generation Company Limited for the Sirajganj 225 MW and Bheramara 410 MW Combined Cycle Power Plants, with revised tariffs set to save the Bangladesh Power Development Board approximately Tk 201 crore annually. The committee also endorsed the import of two crore litres of refined soybean oil from Indonesia to support low-income households.
Other approvals included the construction of new power substations and a modern office building in Dhaka. These measures are part of a broader strategy to strengthen energy and infrastructure sectors.
