Bangladesh Government Considers LNG Transportation from Bhola Amid Gas Crisis
The Bangladesh government is addressing a gas crisis caused by declining domestic production and inadequate import infrastructure by considering the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Bhola. The Energy Division previously authorized Intraco to transport gas to Dhaka, aiming for an initial supply of 5 million cubic feet per day, but actual supplies have fallen short, currently averaging only 800,000 to 900,000 cubic feet per day.

The Bangladesh government is addressing a gas crisis due to declining domestic production and insufficient import infrastructure. The Energy Division is exploring the use of idle gas from Bhola. Previously, Intraco was authorized to transport gas from Bhola to Dhaka, starting in December 2023, using compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders.
The initial supply target was set at 5 million cubic feet per day, with a goal of reaching 25 million cubic feet. However, actual supply has only reached 800,000 to 900,000 cubic feet per day and is further declining.
