Bangladesh Inaugurates Thales Radar System Amid Regional Tensions
Bangladesh has deployed the Thales Ground Master 403M radar system at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, enhancing air traffic control and surveillance capabilities. The radar can monitor flights up to 350 nautical miles, raising strategic concerns regarding airspace monitoring over India's sensitive northeastern region.

Bangladesh has launched the Thales Ground Master 403M radar along with an Air Traffic Management Centre (ATMC) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, significantly boosting its air defense and air traffic management. Developed by French company Thales, the radar system, installed under a project initiated in 2019 and completed in 2025 for approximately 942 crore Bangladeshi Taka, can detect airborne objects and track flights up to 350 nautical miles from Dhaka.
This capability could potentially extend to monitoring Indian airspace, particularly over the Siliguri Corridor. The ATMC will operate continuously to ensure efficient airspace management, raising security concerns regarding the Indian Air Force operations nearby.
