Bangladesh Pursuing Defense Deal with Turkey for Attack Helicopters and Drones

DEFENSE

Bangladesh's interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, is negotiating a defense deal with Turkey to acquire eight T129 ATAK attack helicopters and ANKA UAVs. High-level meetings took place in Dhaka between Bangladesh Air Force officials and Turkish Aerospace Industries.

The ANKA drones are designed for reconnaissance and strike missions, while the T129 ATAK helicopters are equipped for all-weather operations. Bangladesh's military collaboration with Turkey follows a shift towards an anti-India stance since August 2024, raising concerns in New Delhi.

Additionally, discussions regarding potential procurement of JF-17 fighter jets from Pakistan are underway, although they remain in preliminary stages. The evolving defense relationships with Turkey and Pakistan are seen as part of Bangladesh's military modernization efforts.
