Bangladesh to Sign Tk608cr Agreement with China for Military Drone Manufacturing Facility
Bangladesh will sign a Tk608 crore agreement with China to establish a military drone manufacturing facility, aimed at enhancing its air defense capabilities. The project, approved by the finance ministry, will be implemented by the Bangladesh Air Force in collaboration with China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, focusing on domestic drone production and maintenance to reduce import reliance. Financing will come from the existing Air Force budget, with the total cost renegotiated from an initial Tk643.61 crore.

Bangladesh will sign a government-to-government agreement with China to establish a military drone manufacturing facility, enhancing air defense capabilities. The finance ministry approved the project, titled "Establishment of Manufacturing Plant and Transfer of Technology (ToT) for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)" on January 6, with a total cost of Tk608.08 crore.
Tk570.60 crore will be allocated for letters of credit and technology installation, disbursed over four fiscal years. The Bangladesh Air Force will implement the project with technology from China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) International.
The initiative aims to enable domestic drone manufacturing and maintenance, reducing reliance on imports. The project is financed within the existing Air Force budget without requiring additional allocations. CETC initially quoted Tk643.61 crore, but the price was renegotiated to Tk608.07 crore after discussions.
