Bangladesh to Sign Tk608cr Agreement with China for Military Drone Manufacturing Facility

DEFENSE

Bangladesh will sign a government-to-government agreement with China to establish a military drone manufacturing facility, enhancing air defense capabilities. The finance ministry approved the project, titled "Establishment of Manufacturing Plant and Transfer of Technology (ToT) for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)" on January 6, with a total cost of Tk608.08 crore.

Tk570.60 crore will be allocated for letters of credit and technology installation, disbursed over four fiscal years. The Bangladesh Air Force will implement the project with technology from China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) International.

The initiative aims to enable domestic drone manufacturing and maintenance, reducing reliance on imports. The project is financed within the existing Air Force budget without requiring additional allocations. CETC initially quoted Tk643.61 crore, but the price was renegotiated to Tk608.07 crore after discussions.
