Bangladesh's Rooftop Solar Capacity Surpasses 500MW Amid Industrial Energy Transition
Bangladesh's industrial sector has installed over 500MW of rooftop solar to mitigate fuel risks and rising energy costs. With an additional 500MW expected this year, manufacturers are increasingly adopting solar solutions driven by global compliance pressures and the need for energy security.

The industrial sector in Bangladesh has exceeded 500MW in rooftop solar installations as manufacturers seek alternatives to grid instability and rising fuel costs. Companies such as Rising Group and Pacific Jeans illustrate this trend, sourcing 15% and 12% of their energy needs, respectively, from solar systems.
The introduction of net metering in 2018 has facilitated this growth, allowing excess solar energy to be exported to the grid, with plans for another 500MW to be added this year. Despite the current capacity challenges, the demand for renewable energy solutions is expected to rise, particularly from export-oriented sectors pressured to improve sustainability. However, energy-intensive industries may struggle to meet their full demand solely through rooftop solar.
