Baowu Steel Launches China's First Million-Ton Near-Zero Carbon Steel Production Line in Zhanjiang
Baowu Steel Group has launched China's first million-ton near-zero carbon steel production line at its Zhanjiang Steel plant, utilizing the innovative Hydrogen Metallurgical Electric Melting Process (HyRESP) technology. This facility aims to produce low-carbon emission steel slabs, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 3.14 million tons annually compared to traditional methods, while supporting national 'dual carbon' goals through enhanced low-carbon steel research collaboration.

On December 23, Baowu Steel Group announced the full operational status of China's first million-ton-level near-zero carbon steel production line at Baosteel's Zhanjiang Steel plant. This project utilizes the Hydrogen Metallurgical Electric Melting Process (HyRESP) technology, achieving a full-chain integration for zero-carbon high-grade steel plates.
The production line incorporates a hydrogen-based vertical shaft furnace, electric arc furnace, and continuous casting lines, with construction commencing on April 11, 2024. The facility is designed to produce low-carbon emission slabs and aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 3.14 million tons annually compared to traditional methods. Baosteel seeks to leverage this production line to enhance cooperation in low-carbon steel material research and uphold its commitment to the national 'dual carbon' goals.
