Barber's Farm Saves £70,000 Annually with Milk Source Heat Pumps for Dairy Operations
Barber's Farm in Somerset installed three milk source heat pumps, saving over £70,000 annually on electricity and reducing carbon emissions by nearly 60 tons. The system efficiently cools milk and heats water, replacing traditional methods. Energy savings range from £19,710 to £31,775 per farm, totaling £72,288 per year. The technology, developed by Arkaya Energy, integrates cooling and hot water production, enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
Barber's Farm in Somerset installed three milk source heat pumps, achieving over £70,000 in annual electricity savings and cutting carbon emissions by nearly 60 tons. The pumps cool milk to 4C and produce high-grade hot water at 92C, replacing older systems.
Energy savings reported include £20,808 and £19,710 for two farms, with a projected £31,775 for the third, totaling £72,288 across all farms. The technology, developed by Arkaya Energy, has been commercially installed on over 20 dairy farms in the UK since 2023 and received the Royal Dairy Innovation Award in 2026.
