Barcelona is acquiring 600 care robots to aid elderly individuals, utilizing funds from the NextGenerationEU recovery initiative. These robots, produced by Misty Robotics, stand 1.35 meters tall and are intended to assist those with cognitive decline.
They can detect risks, engage in activities, and provide reminders for appointments. The project costs 3.8 million euros and aims to alleviate issues related to aging, as Spain faces a growing number of elderly residents living alone, particularly women. While the robots can provide support, social workers can also monitor situations remotely in emergencies, contingent on resident consent.
