Barstow Community College has acquired a former Rite Aid building to develop a Career Technical Education Workforce Training Center, enhancing job training capabilities. The site will include five labs, each with a capacity for 25 learners, focusing on high-demand skills like robotics and cybersecurity.
This initiative is in response to increased workforce needs due to projects like the BNSF Barstow International Gateway, which could create up to 20,000 jobs. The college plans to utilize funds from its capital outlay account to support the renovation and program initiation, while also seeking additional state and federal financing. The facility is expected to significantly contribute to the local economy by preparing residents for high-wage careers.
