Bavaria's Data Center Capacity Growth Faces Challenges by 2030
Bavaria's data center capacity stands at 420 MW, significantly lower than Hessen's 1,131 MW. By 2030, AI and HPC installations in Bavaria are expected to increase to approximately 250 MW, contingent upon infrastructure improvements.

Bavaria's current data center capacity is 420 MW, trailing Hessen, which has 1,131 MW. AI and HPC applications account for over 20% of Bavaria's total capacity, the highest percentage in Germany. Projections indicate that by 2030, AI and HPC installations could reach around 250 MW, potentially making up 45% of the state's total capacity if infrastructure enhancements occur.
However, data center energy consumption is estimated to hit 3.1 terawatt-hours by 2025, and new regulations may mandate that data centers utilize 100% renewable energy by 2027. Challenges in energy supply could hinder growth in this sector.
