British Columbia's Energy Minister Adrian Dix announced an agreement between BC Hydro and the Nisga'a First Nation to support a floating LNG terminal in northwestern B.C. The North Coast Transmission Line will supply up to 600 megawatts to the Ksi Lisims LNG project, which aims for 12 million tonnes per year capacity.
The project, located in Nisga'a Treaty territory, received environmental approvals in September but still requires a final investment decision. Construction of the transmission line is set to start this summer, with full electrification expected by 2032. The North Coast Transmission Line is on the federal government's list of major projects and aims to enhance electricity capacity and facilitate private sector investment.
