BC Hydro Consults Squamish Nation on Power Line for Woodfibre LNG Facility
BC Hydro is consulting with Squamish Nation regarding the construction of a hydroelectric power line to supply power to the Woodfibre LNG facility, located on the Nation's former village site, Swiy̓át. This 138-kilovolt power line will extend 19 kilometers and aims to minimize environmental impacts, allowing Woodfibre LNG to produce liquefied natural gas with significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The project is part of the Woodfibre LNG Interconnection Project Stage 2, with consultations currently underway. Construction is anticipated to commence in spring 2028. BC Hydro has committed to ongoing communication and engagement with the Nation and local stakeholders, including an open house on March 31, 2025, to discuss the proposal.
