BC Iron Ltd Reports 81% Construction Completion and First Salt Crystals in March 2026 Update
BC Iron Ltd achieved 81% construction completion and produced its first salt crystals at the Mardie project in March 2026. The project, projected to be Australia's largest solar salt operation, also includes potash extraction and has demonstrated operational viability despite challenges from recent tropical cyclones.

BC Iron Ltd (ASX: BCI) reported 81% completion of its Mardie project construction and the successful production of its first salt crystals as of March 2026. The company has invested $1.37 billion into this project, which aims to combine industrial salt production with sulfate of potash extraction.
Despite facing two tropical cyclones, BCI reported no significant material damage or loss of brine in evaporation ponds. The company’s financial position remains strong, with $522 million in liquidity, covering construction costs and operational ramp-up.
The Cape Preston West port, nearing 94% completion, will enhance export capabilities with 20 million tonnes annual capacity. BCI anticipates positive operational cash flow from salt production by FY2028 and plans to finalize investment decisions on commercial SOP production by early 2027.
