Beaumont Airport Stages Army Helicopters for Overseas Transport via Port of Beaumont

DEFENSE

Beaumont Municipal Airport has staged Army helicopters for transport through the Port of Beaumont for over 20 years. The airport does not have a formal contract with the military, but helicopters en route to overseas missions, including Germany, are temporarily housed at the airport before shipping.

The arrangement provides financial benefits to the city, with approximately 13,000 gallons of fuel sold to the Army during each visit. Ferry pilots generate local tax revenue through hotel stays and purchases while waiting for aircraft to be shipped.

Training exercises are also conducted by pilots during their stay. Federal regulations require aircraft over populated areas to maintain a minimum altitude of 1,000 feet, with exceptions for specific operations. Residents can report low-flying aircraft to the airport, which remains open to community visits for educational purposes.
