Bechtel and ENKA inaugurated Section 6 of Serbia's Morava Corridor Motorway, bringing the total completed length to 71 km of the planned 112 km route. The new section connects Kraljevo with Vrnjačka Banja.
The Morava Corridor is Serbia's largest infrastructure project, aimed at connecting central Serbia with Pan-European Corridors X and XI, enhancing road safety, and supporting regional economic development. The route will feature 79 bridges, 13 interchanges, and 1,000 km of fibre-optic cable for smart traffic management.
Additionally, the project includes significant river regulation and flood defense works along the West Morava, with 36 km of river regulation and 26 km of dikes planned. Financing combines Serbian state funds and EU support, with the EU mobilizing €6.2 billion for various projects in Serbia since 2020. Local officials view the motorway as beneficial for connectivity and tourism, though concerns about costs and environmental impacts have been raised.
