BeHyPSy Project Develops Lightweight Air-Cooled Fuel Cell System for UAVs and Light Aircraft
The BeHyPSy project, coordinated by the Centre for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT), is developing an air-cooled fuel cell system for UAVs and light aircraft with take-off weights between 25 and 2,000 kg. Graebener is a subcontractor, responsible for manufacturing bipolar plates from titanium foil for the air-cooled fuel cell stacks.
This system aims to reduce weight compared to traditional liquid cooling methods, addressing the increased requirements for air management. The design includes a multi-phase electric motor powered by a multi-stack fuel cell to enhance reliability. Graebener also analyzes design feasibility and production processes, leveraging its 20 years of experience in manufacturing metallic bipolar plates.
