Belgium Proposes to Eliminate Age Limit for Military Reservists to Boost Recruitment
Belgium's Defense Ministry is proposing to remove the age limit for military reservists to enhance recruitment efforts and utilize a broader skill set. A draft law introduced by Peter Buysrogge aims to abolish the 34-year maximum age for ordinary reservists and the 50-year limit for reserve officers. The initiative seeks to recruit at least 1,000 new reservists annually and is part of a broader strategy to increase the defense budget to meet NATO's 2% GDP target.

The Defense Ministry aims to recruit at least 1,000 new reservists annually, leveraging a diverse skill set from the civilian workforce. This initiative coincides with plans to significantly increase defense spending, targeting 2% of GDP in alignment with NATO requirements, and involves an investment of nearly €17 billion in defense over the coming years.
