Belgium to Install NASAMS Air Defense and Anti-Drone System at Antwerp Port by 2027
DEFENSE
Belgium will install a NASAMS air defense system at the Port of Antwerp by 2027, as announced by Prime Minister Bart De Wever. This decision follows multiple drone sightings near Belgian airports and military facilities in 2025.
The air defense system, which includes an anti-drone component, aims to safeguard nearly two-thirds of the port area. The initiative is linked to a broader defense strategy, with Belgium acquiring 10 NASAMS systems in a deal with the Netherlands for approximately €2.5 billion. The Port of Antwerp is a key trade gateway in Europe, handling 266.5 million tons of cargo in 2025.
