Belgium's three leading defence firms have formed a joint venture to enhance the support for army land systems. The initiative focuses on pooling capabilities to reinforce national autonomy and maintain operational readiness.
Maintenance activities will occur at Belgian sites, including Rocourt, which houses the largest armament facility in Belgium. This venture aims to consolidate defence autonomy, preserve critical industrial skills, and create skilled jobs.
Belgium's Ministry of Defence emphasizes the integrated nature of the solution to improve vehicle fleet performance and combat capability. The initiative supports ongoing modernisation programmes, including orders for 500 VBMR Griffon vehicles and 60 EBRC Jaguar vehicles, with the first Griffons expected by July 2025.
The joint venture will implement an integrated support system to monitor readiness and anticipate spare parts requirements, thereby reducing mean time to repair. This aligns with a broader European trend to enhance industrial and logistical capacity amidst rising geopolitical tensions.
