Belgium's Defense Spending Reaches 7.95 Billion Euros, Highest in 20 Years

Belgium's defense spending has increased to 7.95 billion euros, the highest level in the last 20 years, accounting for 2.4% of total expenditures. In 2024, defense spending is projected to represent 1.3% of Belgium's GDP.
This rise follows a prolonged period of stagnation and includes investments in new equipment, notably F-35 fighter jets. Additionally, NATO members agreed at the Hague Summit in July to aim for defense spending of 5% of GDP.
