Belgium's MQ-9B SkyGuardian remotely piloted aircraft system is set for its initial deployment in NATO's Operation Sea Guardian by 2026, enhancing maritime situational awareness in the Mediterranean. The Belgian Air Force received its first aircraft in September, with plans for a second by mid-November, and aims for Initial Operational Capability by late 2026. The total investment for the SkyGuardian fleet's development is projected at 504 million euros through 2034.

Belgium's MQ-9B SkyGuardian remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) is slated for its first operational deployment in 2026, supporting NATO's Operation Sea Guardian. This operation, aimed at enhancing maritime situational awareness and counter-terrorism in the Mediterranean, will utilize the SkyGuardian operating from Italy.
The Belgian Air Force received its first MQ-9B aircraft in September, with a second scheduled for mid-November and a total of two systems ordered. Belgium plans to achieve Initial Operational Capability (IOC) by late 2026 and Full Operational Capability (FOC) by mid-2027.
The SkyGuardian deployment will be supported by Belgium's contributions to the NATO AWACS fleet and the planned deployment of the frigate BNS Leopold I. Belgium's Ministry of Defence anticipates a total investment of 504 million euros for the SkyGuardian fleet’s development through 2034.
