Belize Military Leadership Transition: Captain Soberanis and Brigadier General Velasquez Appointed
On January 29th, Belize's military institutions underwent a change of command. Captain Gregory Soberanis took command of the Belize Coast Guard, succeeding Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, who now serves as CEO in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez succeeded Brigadier General Azariel Loria as head of the Belize Defense Force. Both ceremonies were attended by Prime Minister John Briceño and other senior government officials, emphasizing national security as a priority.

On January 29th, Belize's military institutions, the Belize Defense Force (BDF) and the Belize Coast Guard (BCG), experienced changes of command. Captain Gregory Soberanis took over the BCG from Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, who is now the CEO in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Soberanis plans to strengthen the Coast Guard's fleet, bases, and operational responsibilities. Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez succeeded Brigadier General Azariel Loria as commander of the BDF. Both transitions were attended by Prime Minister John Briceño, who emphasized the importance of national security.
