Bengal Gas Co Ltd Advances Piped Gas Supply Near Kolkata
Bengal Gas Co Ltd (BGCL) has secured approvals to lay gas pipelines in Chandannagar and near Kolkata airport, aiming to begin piped natural gas (PNG) supply in three months. This initiative will include 10,000 household connections in Chandannagar and further extend PNG infrastructure across the Greater Kolkata area.

Bengal Gas Co Ltd (BGCL) plans to initiate piped natural gas (PNG) supply in Chandannagar and adjacent areas within three months after receiving necessary approvals. The company has commenced laying a main steel pipeline from Delhi Road to Chandannagar, with an aim to connect 10,000 households this year.
Additionally, BGCL is progressing with pipeline work near Kolkata airport, which had been delayed since 2023. The project includes laying pipelines from Barrackpore to Shyambazar and extending infrastructure to reach various regions including North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas.
BGCL is the sole licensee for CNG and PNG across a 1,531 square kilometer area in Greater Kolkata. As competition increases with other companies entering the PNG market, BGCL must ensure timely execution to maintain its market position.
