Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary-General of Morocco's Justice and Development Party, urged Algeria's future leadership to normalize relations with Morocco. Speaking in Fez, he criticized the current Algerian administration for believing that conflicts with Morocco benefit Algeria.

He deemed this approach outdated and highlighted the need for regional cohesion amidst international tensions. Benkirane called for the reopening of land borders closed since 1994 and expressed hope that Algeria would improve relations with Morocco and its neighbors following General Saïd Chengriha's tenure. He emphasized the necessity of aligning foreign policies and defense strategies between the two nations.
