BHEL Signs Technology Transfer Agreement with DRDO for Naval Systems
BHEL has established a licensing agreement with NSTL of DRDO for the GT-IRSS technology aimed at naval vessels. This move is critical for enhancing indigenous defense capabilities in alignment with the 'Make in India' initiative.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has signed a licensing agreement for technology transfer with the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) of DRDO concerning the Gas Turbine-Infrared Suppression System (GT-IRSS). The agreement allows BHEL to handle the fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the LM2500 system, developed domestically.
This initiative is part of BHEL's strategy to diversify into the defense sector and is expected to bolster local capabilities amidst the government's push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The company reported a turnover of approximately ₹32,350 crore for FY26, with strong order inflows contributing to a healthy order book.
