Bhutan Launches Solar Power Projects Supported by India

HYDROGENSOLAR ENERGY

Bhutan has commenced work on two solar power projects, including a 240 kW grid-integrated and 25 kW off-grid project at Jigme Namgyel Engineering College and a 200 kW rooftop project at the College of Science and Technology in Phuentsholing. These initiatives are part of Bhutan's strategy to enhance renewable energy capacity.

An agreement for collaboration on renewable energy was signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on November 11, 2025, focusing on solar, wind, biomass, and green hydrogen projects. India is providing a line of credit of Rs 4,000 crore to support these energy projects, aimed at fostering joint research, training, and technology sharing between the two nations.
