Bicol Disaster Council Activates Red Alert for Mayon Volcano Activity Response

DEFENSE

The Bicol Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's Emergency Operations Center has been placed on red alert due to Mayon Volcano's increased activity. All response clusters have been activated, with specific agencies assigned roles: the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for camp management and food distribution; the Department of Health (DOH) for health services; the Philippine National Police (PNP) for law and order; the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) for logistics; and others for various support roles.

Evacuations within the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone will be coordinated by local disaster councils. The DSWD has begun distributing Ready-to-Eat Food boxes to displaced families and will provide family food packs. Albay Governor Noel Rosal has suspended classes in schools within the danger zone and implemented security measures to prohibit entry and activities in the area.
