Bigadan Launches CO2 Capture Facility in Kalundborg for Biogas Industry
Bigadan's new facility in Kalundborg aims to capture and permanently store 27,000 tons of biogenic CO2 annually, contributing to a broader goal of 200,000 tons by 2030 across Denmark. This initiative marks a significant step in commercializing carbon capture and storage in the biogas sector.
On May 20, Bigadan inaugurated a CO2 capture facility at Kalundborg Bioenergi, establishing a commercial value chain for capturing, transporting, and permanently storing biogenic CO2 from biogas. The facility will collect CO2 generated from agricultural and industrial byproducts and transport it to the Danish North Sea for permanent storage via Project Greensand.
The aim is for the Kalundborg site to capture 27,000 tons of CO2 annually, with a target of reaching a total capacity of 200,000 tons across all of Bigadan's Danish biogas plants by 2030. This development represents a shift from pilot projects to a new industry standard, potentially influencing future investments in carbon capture technologies.
