Bihar Sets 2031 Goal for 100,000 Tons of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Production
Bihar aims to produce 100,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and ammonia by 2031, requiring 1 GW of electrolyzer and 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity. This initiative supports decarbonization and energy security, with an investment target of ₹160 billion (~$1.71 billion).

The Government of Bihar has established a target to produce 100,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and green ammonia by 2031. To achieve this, a capacity of approximately 1 GW for electrolyzers and 2.5 GW of renewable energy linked to hydrogen projects is planned.
The Green Hydrogen Policy 2026 will be in effect for five years and is designed to cover the entire value chain, including production and storage. It aims to attract nearly ₹160 billion (~$1.71 billion) in investment and improve the business environment through a single-window clearance mechanism.
The Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency will oversee policy implementation and stakeholder coordination. Projects must utilize renewable energy sources to qualify for benefits.
