Bilbao Port and Logistics Sector Develops Competitive Energy Model
Bilbao's port and logistics community is showcasing its offerings at Breakbulk Europe 2026, emphasizing its role in project cargo. The port is enhancing its energy model to support decarbonization, with plans for increased capacity and green energy supply by 2030.

A delegation of over 30 companies from Bilbao's port and logistics sector will participate in Breakbulk Europe in June 2026, focusing on project cargo. Breakbulk accounts for 11% of the port's traffic, with 3,405,175 tonnes handled in 2025, including significant weights in Ro-Ro transport.
Bilbao is also recognized as a key hub for wind energy, featuring manufacturing facilities for wind turbine components. The port is implementing a comprehensive energy model, increasing its OPS capacity from 30 MW to 60 MW by 2026, aiming for 175 MW by 2030.
The e-Fuels Demo Unit, operational by 2027, will further enhance its decarbonization initiatives. The port's strategy positions it to be the first Atlantic port fully compliant with AFIR regulations, supplying 100% green energy to docked vessels. Joining the Net-Zero Mar Alliance supports its decarbonization goals.
