Bill Gates-Backed Type One Energy Files for Fusion Plant License in Tennessee
Type One Energy, supported by Bill Gates, seeks to construct the Infinity One fusion energy plant in Tennessee by 2029. This initiative aims to advance magnetic confinement fusion technology and repurpose a retired fossil fuel site for clean energy production.

Type One Energy has submitted an application for an initial license to establish a fusion energy plant named Infinity One in Tennessee, targeting operational status by 2029. This facility will utilize a stellarator design to achieve plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius and intends to create a model for safety-focused fusion licensing.
The choice of the former Bull Run Fossil Plant site leverages existing infrastructure and community support, aligning with industry trends in repurposing energy. The project includes plans for a workforce training center and future expansion to Infinity Two, a 350 MWe fusion power plant. Currently, commercial fusion energy is not available on the grid, with ongoing developments still in prototype stages.
