Biopower Invests R$ 140 Million to Modernize Biodiesel Plants in Brazil

BIOPOWER

Biopower, a JBS Novos Negócios company, announced a R$ 140 million investment in modernization and technological innovation for its three biodiesel plants located in Lins (SP), Campo Verde (MT), and Mafra (SC). This investment, the largest since the Mafra unit opened in 2021, is set to enhance production efficiency and prepare the company for a projected production of over 650 million liters of biodiesel by 2025.

Key innovations include the implementation of enzymatic esterification technology, which replaces traditional chemical catalysts with high-efficiency enzymes, allowing for better productivity and flexibility in raw materials. This project will start this year and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

Biopower has already produced over 4 billion liters of biodiesel in 18 years, contributing to reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 9 million tons. The company is also positioning itself to meet the growing demand for sustainable fuels in maritime transport, in line with the International Maritime Organization's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
