Bird-Johnson Secures Contract for 100th DDG-51 Destroyer's Propellers
Bird-Johnson will supply controllable pitch propeller systems for the US Navy's 100th DDG-51 destroyer, continuing a 40-year partnership. This contract underscores Bird-Johnson's role in enhancing naval operational capabilities.

Bird-Johnson will provide controllable pitch propeller (CPP) systems for the US Navy's 100th DDG-51 destroyer, marking a significant milestone in their 40-year relationship with the DDG-51 program. The CPP systems are engineered for optimal performance at both standard speeds under 30 knots and high speeds above 30 knots, ensuring the 9,000-tonne destroyer is equipped for various naval missions.
Delivery and lifecycle services will be managed by Bird-Johnson's teams in Mississippi and Massachusetts. The systems also feature underwater blade replacement capabilities and have been adopted across other US Navy platforms, including San Antonio-class and America-class vessels. The continued reliance on Bird-Johnson's technology highlights the company's influence on naval propulsion design.
