Boeing 747-8 Selected as Future Air Force One Model
The U.S. government has confirmed the Boeing 747-8 as the future Air Force One, replacing older 747-200 models. This decision, announced by the Pentagon, highlights a focus on domestic manufacturing and advanced capabilities for presidential air travel.

The Pentagon has selected the Boeing 747-8 to succeed the currently used Boeing 747-200 aircraft for Air Force One, with new planes expected to enter service by 2018. The decision was influenced by the requirement for a large aircraft with four engines, limiting options to the 747 and Airbus A380.
The 747-8 is noted as the only U.S.-manufactured aircraft capable of fulfilling the mission requirements and representing national interests. Negotiations for the procurement contract with Boeing are set to commence, where Boeing will provide the aircraft and necessary modifications. Current presidential aircraft have been in service since 1991 and feature secure communication systems, a presidential office, a conference room, a medical area, and a kitchen.
