Boeing Australia plans to have the operational MQ-28 Ghost Bat ready for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) by 2028. The program achieved a significant milestone in December 2025 with a successful AIM-120 missile test.
Following this, Boeing Defense Australia secured a $500 million contract for the production of additional MQ-28s, with a total of 18 aircraft planned over multiple blocks. The Block 2 version is set to be operational by 2026, while the Block 3 design, which includes extended wings and increased fuel capacity, is aimed at international markets.
Boeing's collaboration with the U.S. military has introduced ITAR-restricted technology, enhancing the aircraft's capabilities. Ongoing discussions will determine future production phases, as Australia has invested approximately $1.4 billion in the program, making the MQ-28 the most mature and capable collaborative combat aircraft currently available.
