Border Roads Organisation Maintains Connectivity to Ladakh Amidst Winter Conditions
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully maintained the Srinagar-Leh national highway this winter, ensuring connectivity to Ladakh despite challenging icy conditions and relatively low snowfall. Project Vijayak is actively conducting snow clearing operations at the critical Zoji La pass, which usually closes from December to April, while the Chief Secretary of Ladakh has been updated on these efforts. If closures occur in the coming weeks, airlift support from the Indian Air Force may be required.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has kept the Srinagar-Leh national highway open this winter, facilitating all-weather connectivity to Ladakh despite relatively less snowfall. BRO's Project Vijayak, based in Kargil, is conducting snow clearing operations, particularly at the strategic Zoji La pass, which typically closes from December to April.
The Chief Secretary of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, was briefed on efforts to maintain this crucial route. This winter, Zoji La has experienced less snow accumulation, although conditions remain challenging with icy roads and sub-zero temperatures.
If closures occur in the coming weeks, airlift by the Indian Air Force may be necessary. Project Vijayak, established post-1999 Kargil conflict, oversees infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing defense mobility and civilian connectivity in the region. Similarly, Project Himank is maintaining roads along the Line of Actual Control with China, ensuring access for troops at high altitudes.
