Botswana and Oman Forge Strategic Energy and Mineral Exploration Agreements
Botswana has secured multiple agreements with Oman, including a 500MW solar project and joint mineral exploration initiatives. These developments aim to enhance energy security and diversify the economy away from diamond dependency while targeting a 50% renewable energy contribution by 2030.

During a visit to Oman, President Duma Boko finalized agreements focusing on energy and mineral exploration, notably a 500MW solar photovoltaic project in Maun, developed by NAQAA Sustainable Energy, a subsidiary of O-Green. This project marks a significant step toward Botswana's goal of achieving a 50% renewable energy contribution by 2030.
Additionally, a joint exploration initiative with Minerals Development Oman will cover roughly 70% of Botswana's land, targeting critical minerals such as copper and gold. Infrastructure development agreements with OQ S.A.O.C. aim to enhance oil storage capabilities in Walvis Bay and Botswana. These initiatives are crucial for Botswana's economic diversification and reducing reliance on diamond exports.
