The City of Brandon and surrounding municipalities support Manitoba Hydro's $3 billion turbine project, announced by Premier Wab Kinew, which will add three combustion turbine units at the Brandon Generating Station. The project aims to enhance power supply during peak usage times.
Natural gas pipelines will be installed in Elton and Cornwallis to connect to a main line. Public engagement sessions are scheduled for February and March. Construction could begin in 2028, with a proposed capacity of 750 megawatts and an initial cost between $2.5 and $3 billion.
