Brazil Begins Construction of Final Tamandaré-Class Frigate F Mariz e Barros
On January 9, Brazil's TKMS Estaleiro Brasil Sul commenced construction of the fourth and final Tamandaré-class frigate, F Mariz e Barros (F203), for the Brazilian Navy. The keel is scheduled to be laid in 2027, with commissioning expected in 2029.
This frigate is part of the Tamandaré-class Frigates Program (PFCT), which includes four light frigates awarded to the Águas Azuis consortium in March 2020. The consortium comprises TKMS, Embraer, and Atech, contracted by Brazil's state-owned EMGEPRON.
Additionally, two other frigates, F Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201) and F Cunha Moreira (F202), are being built and are set to be commissioned in 2027 and 2028, respectively. The first-in-class frigate, F Tamandaré (F200), is completing trials for commissioning in the coming weeks.
