Bridgewater State University Secures $380K for Quantum Technology Advancements
Bridgewater State University has been awarded $380,000 from MassTech to enhance undergraduate education in quantum technologies. This funding will enable the acquisition of advanced quantum computing and sensing equipment, preparing students for careers in the emerging quantum sector.

Bridgewater State University (BSU) has received $380,000 from MassTech to support the acquisition of a two-qubit optical quantum computer, an NV-defect diamond quantum sensor, and quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum random number generation (QRNG) systems. This investment aims to bolster undergraduate education in quantum computing, sensing, and cybersecurity, addressing workforce needs within Massachusetts' quantum ecosystem.
The new equipment will be integrated into BSU's academic programs, building on over two decades of research in quantum education. The QKD system will enhance BSU's cybersecurity capabilities by facilitating studies on quantum-secure communications, which are critical as quantum technology evolves. By equipping students with practical experience, BSU aims to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce necessary for Massachusetts' leadership in quantum technology.
