Brightly Registers First Carbon Project Under Verra for Food Waste Reduction
Brightly's food recovery carbon project has achieved registration under Verra's VM0046 methodology, setting a precedent for funding models aimed at reducing food waste and supporting food banks. This milestone will facilitate the monetization of avoided greenhouse gas emissions from surplus food redistribution.

Brightly has registered its food recovery carbon project as the first under Verra's VM0046 methodology, creating a new funding model for food banks and organizations focused on food waste reduction. This project quantifies the greenhouse gas emissions avoided through the recovery of surplus food for consumption instead of disposal.
The registration follows extensive data collection and independent validation by SCS Global Services, which will help facilitate final credit issuance. Furthermore, the initiative aims to mitigate methane emissions, a significant contributor to climate change, by efficiently redistributing food. The outcome could enhance funding opportunities for participating organizations, signifying a pivotal advancement in food waste accounting and carbon credit markets.
